Direct Mail - The Importance of the Mailing List
It is a fact of direct mail marketing that a great mailer to a bad list is a bad mailing. In other words, you should start with your direct mail list and work backward. Your mailing list represents your audience -- the people who will (or won't) keep you in business. So the direct mail list requires careful consideration.
Direct mailing lists usually come from one of two sources. Usually, a company will either build a mailing list in-house from their own customer base, or they will buy a list from a data company.
If you choose the latter route and purchase a direct mail list, you may want to work with a mailing list broker. Mark McClendon, a veteran mailing list broker, has some pointers to help you choose a list broker.
