Direct Mail Lists - New Article Posted

The mailing list should be one of your top considerations when conducting a direct mail marketing campaign. Without a good direct mail list, you are derailing your campaign before it has even had a chance to succeed.

Deep down, most direct mail marketers realize this. But due to budget or time constraints, the mailing list sometimes gets demoted as a priority. This is a dangerous slope to put yourself on, because a hastily or shoddily constructed mailing list will lower your response rates like nothing else.

But fear not, because we have plenty of information about direct mail lists here on Postcard Smart. In fact, I've just posted a new article that offers three important things to consider before purchasing a direct mailing list.

Direct Mail - The Importance of the Mailing List

It is a fact of direct mail marketing that a great mailer to a bad list is a bad mailing. In other words, you should start with your direct mail list and work backward. Your mailing list represents your audience -- the people who will (or won't) keep you in business. So the direct mail list requires careful consideration.

Direct mailing lists usually come from one of two sources. Usually, a company will either build a mailing list in-house from their own customer base, or they will buy a list from a data company.

If you choose the latter route and purchase a direct mail list, you may want to work with a mailing list broker. Mark McClendon, a veteran mailing list broker, has some pointers to help you choose a list broker.
